currently reading

awaken by g r thomas. i started this book a while ago but it was just a “between” type book. i only recently started reading this one fully and not while reading others. i’m roughly 30% in and really enjoying it so far. i not a fan of the biblical stuff though, and there are several chapters that don’t follow the protagonist which i find extremely boring. i think that’s a preference thing though, i’m sure others wouldn’t care about it. thanks to the author for sending me a copy to review.

here’s the summary from goodreads:

“SOME PEOPLE AREN’T DESTINED TO BE ORDINARY.
With a special gift held close to her heart, it was always going to be hard for Sophia Woodville to live an ordinary life.
As a 20 year old nursing grad, she thought she had her future all sorted.
However, destiny was about to intervene.
Her secret was not so secret. The gift she possessed was just a hint of something far beyond her wildest imagination.
Sophia will be pulled, kicking and screaming, into an unseen, ancient world that challenges all that she thought to be true of herself, her family and the origins of humanity.
Original sin, forbidden love and her life in constant danger.
Will Sophia survive this dark twist of fate?
Will the devil be her saviour?
Will an Angel be her downfall?”

recently finished

the last book i read was the one memory of flora banks by emily barr and thoroughly enjoyed it. my review will be posted next week but i definitely recommend you check it out! it was a phenomenal book. thanks to penguin random house nz for sending me a copy to review!

i recently read collide by michelle madow – you can find my review here. i found the story really entertaining and fun to read. i was severely disappointed by the author and her ableist language. i’ve heard that this isn’t the first time she’s been proven problematic.

i don’t recommend anyone to read/support an author who ignores how their readers feel. there are better authors out there who genuinely care.

i also have some reviews of the 20th ann game of thrones and crooked kingdom if you wish to check those out!

reading next

i’m hoping to start enchantment, the moonstone by evelyne contant next. i received this book to review by the author and it sounds so magical and lovely. i can’t wait to start it.

here’s the goodreads summary:

“Fear, love… and betrayal; that’s what I feel about my new life.
It’s a life I never asked for, at least not like that.
I certainly dreamed of adventure, of escaping from my ordinary life, but nothing prepared me for what would happen when my normal life flipped upside down.
On that fateful day, a witch, a real one, revealed to me that I’m not human! That’s right, I, Lou Mills, am an enchanter like her! It seems that I’m the key to an ancient prophecy and that I must save the world from the imminent war between humans and enchanters. What waits makes no sense; in fact, nothing seems to make sense to me since meeting her.
And then there’s this man…dark and mysterious…but so attractive. If only I could forget him. Duality is the way the Earth remains in balance, black and white, right and wrong, love and hate. What side should I fight for when the war finally breaks out? How to choose between my family…and the people who I belong to?”

feel free to show your support for the author by buying her book from amazon here. the ebook is very cheap at the moment!

i’d also like to read the rise of the erifs by atlanta bushnell. this book was also sent to me by the author a wee while ago and i still haven’t gotten around to reading it!  i read the first page and i really like the writing style.
